This Privacy Policy describes how SubSense ("we", "us", or "our") handles your information when you use our iOS app. It describes version 5.4 and later. Earlier versions handled purchase information differently; see Earlier Versions below.
Information We Collect
Your subscription list: Names, prices, renewal dates, categories, notes, and preferences are stored on your device. If you use iCloud, Apple may sync this app data between your devices through iCloud key-value storage under your iCloud account. We cannot read it.
Purchases: Apple processes Premium purchases and keeps the purchase records. SubSense reads them on your device through Apple’s StoreKit to unlock Premium and to restore it. SubSense does not send purchase records, device identifiers, or advertising attribution to us or to any analytics, attribution, or purchase-management service.
Apple Ads attribution: SubSense does not request Apple’s AdServices attribution token and does not measure Apple Ads campaigns.
App-usage diagnostics: SubSense keeps usage-event counts and a limited queue of diagnostic events on your device to help improve flows such as onboarding and purchasing. Records include app actions, event times, a session identifier, app version, and language and region settings. These records stay on your device and are not sent to a server.
What SubSense Does on Your Device
Fill from a Receipt or Email: When you choose a screenshot with the system photo picker, paste text, or type text, SubSense reads it on your device. Apple’s text recognition turns a picture into text, then SubSense’s own rules read the text. If your iPhone supports it and Apple Intelligence is turned on, Apple’s on-device language model also reads a copy of the text with details such as email addresses, card and account numbers, and street addresses hidden first. The picture and text are not saved, uploaded, or sent to us or anyone else, and are dropped when the import screen closes. The result only fills the New Subscription form, and it is saved only if you tap Add. The system photo picker gives SubSense only the picture you choose, not your photo library.
Widgets and the Control Center button: After each change to your list, SubSense saves a small copy of your active subscriptions (name, price, currency, category symbol, next renewal date, billing cycle, and a monthly estimate) in an App Group, a storage area on your device shared only by SubSense and its widgets. Widgets read that copy to show renewals and totals. The widget’s show/hide-amounts choice is kept there too. Cancelled plans are not copied. This copy stays on your device.
Siri, Shortcuts, and Spotlight: Shortcuts and Siri requests that read or change your list run inside SubSense on your device. Your subscriptions (name, price, billing cycle, next renewal, and category) are added to your iPhone’s Spotlight index so you can search for them. The index stays on your device and does not include your notes. Siri and Spotlight are Apple features, and Apple’s own privacy terms cover how they handle your requests.
Install history check: To decide whether the free plan holds 5 or 7 subscriptions, SubSense asks the App Store, through Apple’s StoreKit, for the record of your original download. The record contains the first app version you installed, the date, whether it came from the App Store, TestFlight, or a test environment, whether it was refunded, and Apple’s transaction identifier. Apple may contact its servers to verify the record, as it does for purchases. SubSense also looks once for data from earlier versions of SubSense on your device and in your iCloud copy of the list. It keeps the result, and the date SubSense first ran on your iPhone, in the Keychain as items that stay on this device (they are not part of iCloud Keychain or device backups) and in the app’s preferences, so the answer holds if you delete and reinstall the app. These items can remain on your device after you delete SubSense. They are not sent to us or to anyone else, and are not used to track you. If the App Store cannot be reached, SubSense uses what is on your device.
Tips and reminders: SubSense keeps a record on your device of which in-app tips it has shown and on which days you opened it. Renewal reminders are notifications scheduled on your device, and SubSense asks for permission only when you choose to turn them on.
How We Use Your Information
To provide and improve app functionality.
To unlock Premium and restore it by reading your purchases on your device through StoreKit.
To store your preferences and subscription data locally and, when enabled, sync them through iCloud.
To work out your free plan from your install history, as described above.
Sharing of Information
SubSense has no servers of its own and does not send your information to us. Apple processes App Store purchases, iCloud sync, and the install history record. Your tracked subscription list, and anything you read with Fill from a Receipt or Email, stays on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your iCloud account. If you export or share files, or add records to Calendar or Reminders, the information is handled by the apps, services, or accounts you choose. If you email support, we receive the contact information and message you choose to send.
Your Choices
You can delete subscription records in the app and manage iCloud for SubSense in iOS Settings. You can remove SubSense widgets from your Home Screen or Lock Screen, and manage what SubSense shows in search and Siri suggestions in iOS Settings under SubSense and Siri & Search. Deleting tracking records does not cancel paid services, erase Apple’s purchase records, or delete copies you saved or shared outside the app. Deleting the app removes its preferences, the widget copy, and the Spotlight entries, but not the device-only Keychain items described under the install history check. Earlier Versions
Versions of SubSense before 5.4 sent purchase records to RevenueCat for purchase-related app functionality and analytics for SubSense Premium purchases and renewals, using an automatically generated app user identifier. The RevenueCat SDK also sent Apple’s identifier for vendor (a device identifier), device model, app and operating-system versions, language settings, and App Store country information. Those versions also enabled Apple AdServices attribution through RevenueCat to measure Apple Ads acquisition and related subscription revenue, by sending an attribution token to RevenueCat, which could request campaign attribution information from Apple. SubSense did not send the name or email you entered in your local profile to RevenueCat. Updating to version 5.4 or later stops this, but it does not erase records RevenueCat already holds. Children’s Privacy
SubSense does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove the information.
